Phase 3 South Campus

RVH South Campus is coming to south Simcoe

The future RVH South Campus will be located in Innisfil at Yonge Street and Innisfil Beach Road.

Bringing care closer to home for Innisfil and South Simcoe residents

After a two year, comprehensive search, RVH has chosen an 83-acre site at the south-west corner of Yonge Street and Innisfil Beach Road, south of Stroud, as the location for its South Campus. The site is large enough to accommodate the three phases of expansion and ensure RVH can continue to grow.

Why this site?

In Phase 1 of our consultation residents were very clear about their priorities when it came to choosing a site for the South Campus. The told us they want:

  • Easily accessed from Highway 400 and arterial roads.
  • Central to population centres in Innsifil and Barrie.
  • Close to Rizzardo Health & Wellness Centre, civic campus and future health services.
  • Minimizes impact on communities and the environment, particularly Lake Simcoe.
  • Accessible by public transit in the future.
  • Able to have construction and servicing begin quickly.
  • Flexible to allow for future expansion.

The South Campus location meets
all community priorities

Access to health services

RVH already provides a wide variety of outpatient services in the Rizzardo Health and Wellness Centre, directly across the road from the future South Campus. That is step one of our graduated plan.

Outpatient services will continue to be the focus of the South Campus when the Health Hub opens in ten years. It will expand to become a full-service hospital – with inpatient beds, surgical suites and an Emergency Department within 20 years.

Access to health services in your community

Central location with multiple access points

A central location to Innisfil and Barrie

The South Campus site is centrally located to communities in Innisfil, as well as south Barrie and is close to Highway 400.

There will be access to the South Campus from Innisfil Beach Road and Yonge Street which will both be expanded to four lanes within the next decade. Plans are underway to widen the 7th and 6th lines for alternate east-west routes.

The site is also located along a GO bus line and the GO train station is nearby. Innisfil is planning fixed-route transit for the future, so the South Campus will be easily accessible by public transit.

A location that minimizes impact on communities and the environment

Environmental protection and sustainability are important to RVH, and many of the site’s natural elements and water features will be protected and integrated into the site and facility design. In fact, the four acre woodlot on the property, along with a 30 metre buffer around it, will be safeguarded by designating it an Environmental Protection Zone. The site will incorporate walking paths around the woodlot, with views of nature from the building and public spaces.

The importance of Lake Simcoe can’t be overstated and the South Campus plan will align with the Lake Simcoe Protection Plan. The South Campus will also be designed to appropriately acknowledge and honour the significance of the land for Indigenous people.

Protect the environment and incorporate nature in to the design

A catalyst for economic growth in the community

Economic growth

Having a hospital in your community is very good for business. Not only will it bring a significant economic boost during the construction phase, but once both the South and North Campuses open, RVH will double its workforce with 3,000 additional full-time staff. These are stable, well-paying jobs that will result in a substantial secondary economic benefit as staff and physicians purchase homes and support local businesses.

Access to high quality healthcare is also a key consideration for residents and businesses thinking of relocating to a community.

The future of healthcare is here

What do we need to consider?

After a two year, comprehensive search, RVH has chosen an 83-acre site at the south-west corner of Yonge Street and Innisfil Beach Road, south of Stroud, as the location for its South Campus. The site is large enough to accommodate the three phases of expansion and ensure RVH can continue to grow.

When is this going to happen?

In 10 years, RVH’s South Campus will be a Health Hub focused on outpatient clinics, with day procedures and an Urgent Care Centre. In 20 years, at maturity, it be will a full-service, acute care hospital with a 24/7 Emergency Department and operating rooms.
